Parrot Away

The culmination of everything learned at the legendary Animation Workshop in Denmark, this heartwarming gem marked my first proper foray into animated short filmmaking. Not only has this story of an ugly parrot in a world of superficial pirates won hearts all over the world, but multiple awards as well—not to mention an official selection at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival. The short uses flat-shaded 3D animation to achieve a distinctly 2D look, years before films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish helped make the approach a mainstream staple. With its charming art style and optimistic message, it’s a film I’m still deeply proud of.
